My instructional approach is centered around student engagement, creativity, and meaningful learning experiences. I design lessons that guide students through the artistic process while encouraging exploration, problem-solving, and personal expression. Through scaffolding, demonstrations, collaboration, and reflection, students develop both technical skills and confidence in their creative abilities.
In my art classroom, projects are broken into manageable stages that support students at every skill level. Students move through a structured creative process:
Introduction & Inspiration
Introduce the project objective and essential question
Teach relevant vocabulary and concepts
Analyze artist examples and historical/cultural connections
Discuss project expectations and creative challenges
Demonstration & Skill Development
Teacher demonstrations of techniques and processes
Step-by-step instruction and modeling
Visual examples, handouts, and guided practice
Opportunities for students to ask questions and experiment
Creation & Problem Solving
Students apply skills through independent and collaborative work
Teacher conferences and feedback support individual growth
Differentiation allows students of varying skill levels to access the same learning goals
Reflection & Assessment
Students evaluate their creative choices and artistic growth
Critiques encourage communication, reflection, and constructive feedback

Goal: Translate performing art into visual art.
Student Art Exhibited at the Dali Museum in St. Pete
I believe art education plays an essential role in preparing students for future opportunities in creative fields by developing both technical skills and the ability to think critically, collaborate, and communicate ideas. My classroom encourages students to approach creative challenges as problem-solvers, guiding them through the process of brainstorming, planning, creating, revising, and presenting their work.
Through project-based learning, students gain experience developing original concepts, making creative decisions, responding to feedback, and producing work for authentic audiences. Whether creating visual artwork, collaborative projects, digital media, or community-based experiences, students learn that successful creative work requires both imagination and intentional process.
I strive to provide students with opportunities to explore different forms of storytelling and creative expression while building skills that transfer to careers in art, design, media, and other creative industries. By emphasizing collaboration, communication, technical skill development, and reflection, I help students develop the confidence and adaptability needed to become lifelong creators.

I build relationships with students by creating opportunities for them to share their identities, interests, and experiences. When students feel known and valued, they are more willing to take creative risks.

Celebrating student accomplishments
I incorporate cooperative learning strategies to increase student-led learning and to help students become more accountable for their learning. This also increases engagement, and encourages communication, teamwork, and accountability, creating a cooperative and caring environment.
After incorporating these strategies, I have noticed an increase in student understanding and a decrease in the amount of time it takes students to learn new concepts when working collaboratively. When implementing project-based learning on an individual basis, it can be challenging to find meaningful opportunities for collaboration. To address this, I focus on activities such as peer critiques and gallery walks, where students can collaborate by providing feedback on each other’s progress during individual projects. I also incorporate collaborative activities during the planning and brainstorming stages of projects, allowing students to share ideas, problem-solve, and learn from one another before beginning their independent work.
When students work in groups I use group member grading reflections to hold each student accountable for their contribution to the project.
I strive to create an inclusive art environment where students see themselves represented, feel their voices are valued, and have opportunities to explore diverse perspectives. I design lessons that honor different cultures, identities, experiences, and artistic traditions.

I believe strong communication and meaningful partnerships are essential components of a successful learning environment. I strive to maintain open and consistent communication with students, families, colleagues, and the broader community to support student growth and celebrate their accomplishments.
I use a variety of communication tools to keep families informed and engaged, including social media (when permitted) , digital learning platforms, parent updates, and announcements about student opportunities and achievements. I believe families are important partners in education, and I work to create positive connections that help students feel supported both inside and outside the classroom.
Beyond the classroom, I seek opportunities to showcase student creativity and connect art learning with authentic audiences. Through exhibitions, competitions, community events, and collaborative projects, students gain opportunities to share their work and recognize the value of their creative contributions. Examples include student art shows, contest submissions, community displays, recruitment events, and special recognitions such as student artwork selected for exhibition at the Dali Museum.
